BIRTH OF A DRUM CORPS

April 7, 2004, Troy NY - At the 3rd organizational meeting of the Albany Area Drum Corps Initiative, members of the Initiative committee, representing both the Albany area and the Pittsfield MA area acted on choosing an identity for a new Capital Region Drum & Bugle Corps.

Undergoing a multi-meeting name selection process, the choice of names were narrowed down on March 24th, 2004 to 5 out of over 100 suggestions .

During the two week period that followed, a poll was placed on Drum Corps Planet with a results that definitely forecast how the final vote would go.  On Wednesday April 7th, the committee cast their votes and except for a single vote, the name of EXCELSIOR was near unanimously chosen... and a new corps was born.

So begins the Quest (runner up choice for a corps name) to once again make the New York State Capital Region home to a Senior or All-Age Drum & Bugle Corps that we can all be proud of.   Remember our name!  We are...
